Unique Perspectives: Scotoma?
By Kim Stevens

Scotoma? Yep, we all have them…
Have you ever heard of a scotoma?
I first learned about this over 30 years ago in a training I took with Lou Tice at The Pacific Institute. It absolutely fascinated me.
In medical terms, a scotoma is a literal blind spot—part of the eye where you can’tsee. But what intrigued me most was the metaphorical meaning. Lou gave us one of the best examples I’ve ever heard, and it hit home hard:
Have you ever bought a new car—or even just started thinking about one—and suddenly, you see that exact car everywhere? On the road, in parking lots, at traffic lights? I know, right?
Me too.
Those cars were always there. But you didn’t notice them until your attention shifted.
That’s the thing about scotomas. These “blind spots” exist in our lives constantly. We don’t see what we’re not attuned to. But the moment we focus our attention, boom! It’s as if the Universe lifts the veil and says, “Here it is. It’s been here the whole time.”
And attention? Oh, it’s everything.
I talk about this often: what we focus on expands. Your attention is one of the most powerful tools you have. It's not just focus, it's frequency. A magnifying glass. It’s like a tuning fork for your life.
Here’s another one… I do this all the time:
I’ll be looking for a specific pair of earrings (and yes, I love my earrings), and I knowthe second one is there, even if I can’t see it. I’ve trained myself to pause, trust, and “see”. And more often than not, it surfaces… right to the top of the tangled treasure that is my earring drawer.
That moment? That’s not just about finding the earring. It’s a metaphor for life.
It reminds me that I can manifest, or rather, recognize, what I want to see. That what I think is missing might not be missing at all. I just need to shift my lens, put on a new pair of metaphorical glasses, and allow the magic to appear.
Because here’s the truth:
What you seek is seeking you.
What you focus on expands.
Where you place your attention, is where you will go.
When you tune in, you start to see what’s always been waiting for you.
Call it manifestation, call it awareness, call it alignment, take your pick. Your attention is your magic wand. The Universe? That’s the magician. But you’ve got to lift the wand.
So here’s my question for you:
Where are your scotomas?
What’s sitting right in front of you that you still can’t see?
As I write this, I can feel something stirring in me, a quiet knowing that something is rising, something beautiful and expansive is unfolding. I don’t fully know what it is yet… but I can feel it. It’s like a frequency I’m just beginning to tune into.
And so, I stay open. I look for the clues. I adjust the lens and focus. And I trust that what’s coming has been here all along. And very soon… I will see.
