Unique Perspectives: How do you *Actually* Shift Your Perception?
By Kim Stevens

People talk all the time about changing their mindset or shifting their thought system, which is cool, but how do you actually change your perception? And I mean really change it, so your life changes, too?
It only takes an instant.
If I’m afraid of something, and it can be anything at all – paying my bills, someone getting mad at me, not being good enough, not being capable enough – then analyzing the situation to no end isn’t going to help. In fact, it’ll probably hurt me as I descend into a rabbit hole of circular thinking, attempting to scratch my way back to the top but getting caught in the nitty-gritty of the problem with every attempt.
As my thoughts swirl, the problem is that nothing is truly changing. Fear still has me trapped. So now, it’s time to change that.
At its very essence, changing my thought system is about God, and it’s what A Course in Miracles calls “The Holy Instant.” It’s a choice and an acceptance – of removing fear and embracing love. That’s the miracle. I’m changing my perception from a fear-based system to one that’s God-thinking.
And I must choose ALL of one and NONE of the other.
In the Abraham-Hicks version, it’s about getting general. When I’m spiraling down that rabbit hole, I’m getting caught in the specifics of the “but they’re doing that … I can’t pay this … he won’t stop saying that.” When I get general instead – “God’s got me … everything always works out for me …” – I’m adopting a higher thought. The change in perception is the Holy Instant.
Those times when I’m stuck in fear-based thinking are the times when I need miracles the most. To get the miracle, all I have to do is ask. For you, this might look like getting general or recognizing the thought before the thought. For me, it looks like asking the Holy Spirit to change my mind and getting a shift in perception – a miracle – every time I do.
