Unique Perspectives: How Do You Change The Unchangeable?

By Kim Stevens

How do I change the unchangeable?

I change the way I’m looking at it.

Quite some time ago, I made a decision. I decided that no matter what happens in my life, the Universe is always on my side. All is well, and all good is happening for me. That is my truth and it must be applied to everything.

But if good things are always happening for me, what do I do when something feels decidedly not good?

I must figure out if it’s something I can or cannot change.

Let’s say there’s an event happening and for whatever reason, I don’t want to go. Like, I really, really don’t want to go. Every fiber of my being is saying, ‘Kim, this event is not good for you.’ Can I change the outcome of the particular scenario? Of course. I can decide to not go. Politely, I can decline the invitation and do something else that day.

Now, let’s take another example where there’s something happening I can’t change, like someone else’s personality or a situation outside of my control. If my truth is that the Universe is on my side and only good happens for me, then I am at a crossroads. I can either abandon my decision (not happening!) or figure out how to make it OK. To do that, I’ll need to change how I’m looking at what’s unfolding because it’s clear God and I are not perceiving this situation the same way.

If I feel upset by something I can’t change, my power lies in the ability to change my perception of it. To change my mind about it. This is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS an option that’s available to me. I just need the courage and the willingness to be wrong about what I think is happening. To me, this kind of courage is so empowering! And the funny thing is that once I’m willing to see it another way, I almost simultaneously start seeing other possibilities, other benefits, other solutions.

So when I think I cannot change something, I remember I can ALWAYS change my glasses. Rose-colored? Maybe. But those new glasses are the lenses through which I see the world, and I decided a long time ago that I choose to see the world as full of miracles and possibilities.
