Unique Perspectives: The Law Of Resonance...

Pop-Pop and The Law of Resonance

My Pop-Pop Gravina, was a piano tuner by trade. I adored him. He was an artist, a sculptor, and a musician—not educated in the conventional sense, but filled with a wisdom born of curiosity, truth, love, and a healthy dose of humor.

He taught me the best things: to love a bagel with cream cheese and lox, or raw clams… how to properly eat a whole steamed lobster… a love of music and the arts… and even the difference between infer and imply. Being with Pop-Pop was magical, always grounded in the love of simple pleasures.

Some of my fondest memories are of playing music together… he on the saxophone and me on the piano. Our favorite was Ave Maria. Just hearing those opening notes takes me right back to those times, the two of us connected through melody.

I can also still picture him working. He would pull out his roll of tuning forks, pick the right one, strike it, and listen intently as he adjusted the piano strings to match its steady vibration. My heart swells with the mere thought of him. He tuned by ear, with patience and love. And in that simple act, I saw resonance made visible: one clear note, held steady, bringing everything else into harmony. I just LOVE that.

And it wasn’t just the pianos. My Pop-Pop was a master at holding his own vibration. He had a way about him—steady, humorous, grounded. He smoked a pipe, and the sweet smell of vanilla and cherries in his tobacco seemed to announce his presence before he even walked into the room. He didn’t bend to fit the world around him; the world adjusted to him… with pleasure.

Years later, I visited a shaman in Bozeman, Montana, who confirmed what my grandfather had lived all along. After doing “her thing,” she looked at me and said something I’ll never forget: “Kim, the strongest medicine you have is your own resonance. Don’t lose it to anyone or anything.” Then she added: “You’re too quick to bend to the energy around you. Your work is to hold your own higher frequency steady, even in the storm.”

I loved that. It was exactly what my Pop-Pop had modeled for me my whole life.

And science even backs this up. Quantum physics reminds us that everything is energy.

String theory goes further: beneath it all are tiny vibrating strings, like notes in one grand cosmic symphony. Which means resonance isn’t just mystical—it’s the actual song of the universe. (Pop-Pop could have told you that from his piano bench.)

Here’s the truth: Holding your resonance in the midst of lower vibrations isn’t about resisting others—it’s about remembering your note and letting it hum steady. My Pop-Pop was the master of that. With a pipe in his hand, humor in his eyes, and patience in his soul… he didn’t just tune pianos, he tuned hearts, he tuned life. He was the greatest of teachers, and his lessons will resonate with me, and through me for eternity.
